New Tournament Sure to Make Huge Splash

June 8th and 9th could be the beginning of something big for the golf scene in the state of Ohio. The first competitors will step to the tee in The Bohl Group Classic - but that's only the beginning.

The 36-hole pro event being held at Kinsale and Scioto Reserve Golf Clubs in Powell carries an overall purse of more than $50,000. In all ways, it appears to be the real deal. The inaugural event is shaping up with a 150-man field stocked with talent. Dotting the rosters of the event are guys with experience in multiple PGA events, majors and tours across the globe.

"That's one of the biggest things I'm trying to get across to people," said Brett Bohl, president and founder of The Bohl Group. "These guys are good. We're going to have maybe the fourth best collection of talent for a single event in the state, behind the likes of The Memorial, The Bridgestone event at Firestone and the Nationwide tour event."

The name Bohl is a familiar one in sports circles. Brett's father, Al, was a collegiate Athletic Director at schools like Toledo, Fresno State and Kansas before retiring and making use of his talents as an author.

That was, in its origin, the purpose of The Bohl Group, a consulting firm based out of Dublin, Ohio. Still involved in the book publishing industry, the company has expanded to include fundraising, speaking, and this, the Bohl Golf side.

The tournament is just the first step in what Bohl sees as a bright future of spreading golf throughout central Ohio. He hopes to soon garner the corporate support for a program which will help get young people in the area the attention and financial assistance they need to reach their full potential in the sport. His vision reaches as far as elementary physical education instruction, busing kids to courses and providing free greens fees and instruction.

This endeavor, he hopes, will reach as far as providing support for struggling pros hoping to continue to chase their dreams in the sport.

But this future program is far from being the intent of this event. Careful though, because this event is much more than any charity event you've seen before.

While the talented players will undoubtedly be chasing the $50,000 purse, The Bohl Group has chosen a local family fighting to cover the costs of their son's cancer treatment as the primary charitable benefactor of this, the inaugural event.

"We're trying to do this thing right," said Bohl. "We're trying to give these players a great opportunity and experience playing here in the area and we're trying to do some good and raise some money for some great causes."

The Bohl Group certainly has big plans in store for making an impact on the golf being played in the state. All early signs are pointing to a highly successful debut weekend. Keep an eye out for this event as it nears as Ohio's Golf will certainly be there to provide you the information on Ohio's hottest new event.
