Akron men feeling right at home in South Carolina

The Akron men's golf team left themselves in contention to finish strong in their second tournament of the spring.

After shooting two rounds of golf on Monday at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C., the Akron men found themselves in 12th place after shooting a two-round total of 598 (301-297).  Leading the way for the Zips was senior Jacob Patte, who compiled a two-round score of 144 (73-71).  He currently sits in 20th out of a field of 90 players in the individual standings.  Junior Lucas Murray (76-71) sits in 32nd and sophomore Scott Landreth (76-74) is in 46th place.

“Coming into this week, I knew we would have to really be patient with our chipping and putting around the greens,” said third-year head coach Nick Goetze.  “This course is very severe and requires so many delicate short shots to make saves. We’re improving after the winter break and I’m really proud of Jacob Patte, Lucas Murray Scott Landreth.  They put together crucial rounds for us today that will give us a chance to get a solid finish here.”

The Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate will conclude tomorrow (Mar. 9) at the Palmetto Golf Club.
